This past Sunday there was a terrific article about Mumford Cove (Connecticut) and Long Island Sound in the New York Times. Kirk Johnson tells the story of how Paulann Sheets led the fight to move a sewage treatment plant drain pipe from the cove to the Thames River. As a result, the cove has flourished with eelgrass, scallops, and swans replacing the sea lettuce that had been taking over the cove.
This John Deere sits on Groton Long Point, Connecticut awaiting summertime beach duty.
This rotting pier on the Mystic River in Mystic has been overlooked for some time.

Theme Thursday entry for this week.
The Marken lighthouse as seen from the IJsselmeer.
This week’s Photo Friday theme is Candy.
This is one of the most beautiful lighthouses on the IJsselmeer. “The horse of Marken” (Paard van Marken) is located on the traditional Dutch island of Marken.
On a bicycle ride out to the lighthouse on the island of Marken, we encountered these lovely ladies. You can see the lighthouse (and a boat sailing by) in the background.
