Lobster traps

These used to be lobster traps. Now they are used to decorate and protect the shoreline against erosion here (Noank, Connecticut).

What is the key in catching lobster? Do have a step by a step proccess of how to build the traps? Does drums attract them more than the traps? How do you prevent them from 'dropping'?
