At Buck’s Harbor, there really is (still) a Condon’s Garage. In fact it looks a lot like the drawing in Robert McCloskey‘s wonderful , though Dick Condon passed away in 1987. Cousins Phillip Condon and Donald Condon run the place now.

This past Sunday there was a terrific article about Mumford Cove (Connecticut) and Long Island Sound in the New York Times. Kirk Johnson tells the story of how Paulann Sheets led the fight to move a sewage treatment plant drain pipe from the cove to the Thames River. As a result, the cove has flourished with eelgrass, scallops, and swans replacing the sea lettuce that had been taking over the cove.
